What is the most incredible deal you had for an acoustic guitar?
For me it was my 2002 Gibson J 45 Rosewood guitar. Purchased it used for $900. Supposedly had an issue with the neck but I took it to my luthier and he said if it were him he would not fix it and just keep playing it and see what happens. That was eight years ago and it’s my favorite guitar. And the neck never had to be fixed.

A one month old, mint D-18 that I bought in March of this year for $1500. I sold it for $2000 and bought my GE.

In 1991 I answered a newspaper ad that only said "Guitar for Sale" and a phone number.
I soon ended up the new owner of a near perfect 1953 blackguard Fender Telecaster with its original tweed case. The guy set the price at $300. You read that right. |

About 5 years ago, I was offered a 1950 Martin 00-18 for $200.
Yes, I bought it. It was going to need a neck reset soon. I sold it for $2500 two years ago.

I got a supposed scratch n dent Bedell delivered to my doorstep for a few cents under $200. It is solid cedar over solid East Indian Rosewood with electronics, ebony fretboard, and a bone nut. It has been dubbed Cedar Rose by a fellow guitarist that owns the same model. It was considered scratch n dent because someone returned it and I guess just didn't like it. It had someone's long dark hair all over it and inside it. I cleaned up the hair and changed the strings and all I could find anywhere was a tiny pin prick in the finish near the bridge. I had to hold it under bright light to find that. It even smelled new like lovely cedar. It is an exceptionally warm and rich sounding instrument and I doubt I will ever voluntarily part with it. The only negative is the absolutely crappy gig bag that came with it.

I bought two electrics for next to nothing, one due to an accounting error at a big retailer (instead of giving me 15% off they gave me 85% off and didn't take it back when I alerted them to their mistake), and one due to tragic circumstances (yard sale find from a woman who's son had been killed in an auto accident and she was selling most of his stuff - I gave her way more than she was asking, but still got a ridiculous deal on a vintage Gibson Firebird).
But on the acoustic side, I bought my first good acoustic guitar, a 1968 BRW D-28 in 1978 or early 79 for about $400. I don't think that was a ridiculously low price for it at the time, but it was very very reasonable, and seems insanely low now, given that the same guitar would easily go for 10-15 times that amount. It was my only acoustic for the next 25 year, plus or minus, and it was such a sweet sounding guitar that every acoustic I've owned (or will own) since is compared to that gold standard. -Ray

I bought a Yamaha LS16 in minty condition for $349.
My wife secured a good condition Yamaha SLG110S for $200. On the losing send, I sold a practically new Yamaha A5R with premium strap and matching Thalia capo for $900. I sold a Yamaha AC3R for $400.

My brother sold me his 2014 Gibson Limited edition KOA - Adirondack Top j45
as new for $1000. He paid $3600. He wanted me to have a nice guitar when I starting showing interest in learning to play. Of course I bought it, loved it, and then lost my mind and sold it to buy something else. Major stupid move on my part. I got $1800 for it, and gave my brother another $400. He never really forgave me, and, he is right. It was a dumb thing for me to do, and I regret it. Big mistake. I did not really know what I had at that time, because of was ignorant of guitars.

My custom Furch I got for about 3400, but it was spec'd out with Cocobolo, Alpine Spruce, custom inlays, and a K&K Trinity system.
The list price was about 6500,but due to my worship leader discount they were running at the time, I got it for the above price. |

2018 Oxnard-built Guild F512 burst -- they go for about $3,800 new. I got mine for $1,400 because it had a couple gouges on the edge of the top. I had the gouges repaired; it's now like a new F512 -- spectacular!

Hi PZ
Best deal? Somebody (not related to me) gave me a handbuilt (by a solo builder) guitar. It's still in my herd 14 yrs later. It has been a loaner guitar which I've put in the hands of Worship Team leaders who had issues with their guitars and had to send them away for repairs. I loaned them this 'gifted' guitar and a preamp till theirs was fixed. I use it regularly for live play when I have my main guitar strung with heavier strings and tuned down ½ step. |
