Default Commissioned in Edmonton, Alberta

Hello, I'm new to this forum and new to posting in this venue. Please bear with me as I take you on a journey to witness Dion using his estimable skills to craft me a beautiful new guitar. This guitar is dedicated to a personal milestone and to the memory of my oldest brother.

This is the first time I have ever commissioned a guitar so it is all new to me but I have an excellent Luthier taking time to explain the process. It’s pretty awesome for both of us to be in Edmonton and in close communication too. I get to see and touch the build in progress. I am learning first-hand about the physics of how the guitar makes the sound, the characters of woods, and the many details involved in creating this instrument.

I chose Cocobolo for the back and sides and Italian Spruce for the top. The Cocobolo comes from a reserve harvested in the late 70’s, and has beautiful colour and character.

More pics to come...

Hey Jed,

Welcome to the forum and what a great first post!

Looks like you will have a beautiful guitar to mark some special things, so I hope that you get a great deal of enjoyment out of the build process and then the finished instrument. And lucky you for being so close to the builder - my first build was me in Australia and Mike Baranik in California.

Looking forward to more posts.

Col

Congratulations! The quality of Cocobolo that Dion has is incredible - we have an Engelmann/Cocobolo in store from Dion so this is very familiar

And welcome to the forum! Look forward to seeing this being built

Welcome to the forum and congrats on what looks like it's going to be a great project and an outstanding guitar. Been looking at Dion's guitars since a friend and Forum member brought his by a couple of times over that last month or so. That guitar is one of my latest 'all time favorite' guitars. Thought endlessly about purchasing one over the last month or so. In addition, coco is a favorite of mine too. My Lowden has coco back and sides and it is a wonderfully rich guitar - even among Lowdens. Looking forward to following your build. Best of luck and thanks for sharing.

Jeff
