Gibson became so conservative with glue in the depression era, that some people refer to the banner guitars, which have the inscription "Only a Gibson is Good Enough" on the banner, as "Only a Gibson's Unglued Enough".
I agree with Tad that a little visible squeeze-out can be reassuring, but I do whatever I can to to keep my work as clean as possible; and Laurelyn THOUGHT she was through with the "Clean Your Room" phase. |

Laurelyn closed the box yesterday, and spent today cleaning it up, making her purflings, and creating her graft then installing it.

I love this project. I’m a carpenter with 2 sons and a daughter. My daughter is far and away the most capable woodworker. It’s nice working a great project like this with your daughter. She is doing an amazing job.

Bruce! So glad I caught up on this thread. You posted a pic on the 3rd page of leveling the rims on a dish, powered by--it appears--a sanding drum in your drill press. Am I seeing that correctly? (I think I am...) What a Brilliant solution.
Thanks for the idea, and I believe Ryan will especially thank you. Steve |

Steve,
I'm interested. After you and Ryan have done all the hard work, post some pics so I can steal your technique. And thanks to Bruce for posting this, I'm getting tired of driving that bus. I'm not as young as I used to be. |

Yes, Steve, the sanding dish is driven by the drill press! The dish is mounted on a lazy Susan, and the drill press is variable speed. The dish must be near perfectly concentric to the lazy Susan, and this can be done by putting coarse abrasive on the drum and slowly hand rotating the dish against the drum.
I thought the idea clever enough that I published it a few years ago, but few if any seemed to pick up on it. I have been using this rig for about 20 years. I know you’re talking to Steve, Jimmy, but You seem to be speaking in code. Maybe I’ll read your post again after I’ve finished my coffee. |

Laurelyn is binding her guitar today. We chose a simple ornamentation so she wouldn't have to cut miters on the fly, a serious skill which takes judgement beyond the intellect. Or luck beyond standard issue. Something like that.
Ripping Jatoba binding on the 20" saw: Cutting a binding ledge: Cutting top purfling to receive more of the same: The duct-tape on the lamp is there to protect the work from the lamp. Somehow I don't see how shoddy it has become until I see it in a public forum. |

I'm sure when you are using the light your mind is focused on other things.
