Default Using Acoustic Amp with multi-effects or pedal board for Electric

I play at home only and mainly acoustic. However, I do play my strat with blues backing tracks. I also may occasionally play at church or a small gathering. I have lots of experience owning both tube guitar amps and acoustic amps. However, I currently don't have an amp due to a trade and I'm torn between getting a full on Electric amp or getting an acoustic amp and plugging an OD pedal in front or a multi-effects box for amp modeling. I may sing occasionally too. Again, I will use mainly at home so I'm trying to keep things small and simple, but the best tone/flexibility. I know...I'm asking a lot.

Here is what I am contemplating:

Boss Katana 100 $450 w/footswitch pedal. I have settled on this as I want to go solid state and this has extremely good review + it does have an acoustic channel for acoustic guitar. It has an effects loop but does not have an XLR jack). However, it has great flexibility, simple and many multi-effects built in. It has a 12in speaker.

Boss Acoustic Singer $500. Has a lot of acoustic flexibility (guitar, xlr, loop), tweeter control (good for electric) chorus, reverb, etc. Depending on how it sounds, I could put an OD pedal in front, turn down the tweeter and get my blues on. But I'm limited only to that. If I wanted more, I would need to add a multi-effects pedal from Line 6 (Helix LT) @ $600 The concern is the 6in speaker and I'm not sure that it going to sound great plus it is a full range speaker.

I'm thinking I might start with the Boss Acoustic Singer. Check it out and if it does not cut it, return it. Thoughts or ideas are welcome.

Very interested in this thread. I too read the reviews on the Katana. So I went to a guitar center and played the Katana 50, and then another day at another guitar center the 100.
In both cases I thought the electric effects were very good (I don't play any high gain stuff though). The acoustic sound didn't do it for me. It just sounded processed, even with all the effects off. I really really wanted to like it too, and in general I like Boss gear.
I would happily pay up to 500 to get an amp that would cover both electric and acoustic well.

I'm down to just two amps; A Mesa Rosette and a Quilter MicroPro 2-8".
I run them in stereo. The Quilter sounds as good as the Rosette with acoustics (or electric).
The Quilter is lite and very small but sounds fantastic. Made in USA!

Whatever you choose be sure to try a stereo rig someday.

Thanks. Interesting comment about stereo. Years ago I had 2 Roland cube powered speakers + Line6 X3 Live. It was pretty darn cool sounding. However having had a Bugera V22, Deluxe Reverb and Princeton Reverb - now I know what a good Fender clean tone sounds like. I like the idea of simplifying effects if at all possible.

I just watched a video on the Quilter MicroPro Mach 2. Wow. This looks very,very interesting. I need to see if I can find a video with a Strat and acoustic.

Hello Quilter. I love my micropro mach 2 8″ combo and its 12″ hd ext. cab.
(1) Is it safe to dime out the gain and master?
(2) What happens to the power when a ext. cab is attached?
Thanks
~~~~~~
Yes, it’s safe (for the amp) to dime everything – watch out for hearing loss!
The power remains fairly constant when plugging in an extension speaker, although two speakers generally sound “bigger” due to moving more air.
The two speakers split the power which reduces wear and tear at high powers.
Best regards
Pat Quilter
So I cranked it all the way up and it was sorta like this:
SONG: Did you compare the Mach 2 1x8 vs 1x10? I'm more used to a Princeton Reverb (10in speaker) so I'm leaning toward the 1x10. Not sure why Quilter recommends the 8" for acoustic and electric more than their other models?
The Boss' 6.5'' woofer and the 1'' tweeter really deliver. You can't go wrong with the great Boss Acoustic Singer for your use.
I have not compared them. I was not shopping for an amp when I bought it.
I was looking at some new Martin's when I saw it on the floor. I didn't know
anything about Quilter amps. But when I heard it I had to have it.
If I were close to a place that sold em' I'd trade my Mesa for another one.
You're doing the right thing by researching first. Lots of great choices.
Pat Quilter got back to me directly. Nice touch! He recommended the 8” MicroPro vs the 10” or 12” as he said the speaker was better suited for acoustic vs the others. It will also handle electric very well. I’m saving my pennies for the MicroPro Mach 2 8”!
