I didn't watch it. Too busy. I use to play tennis several times a week until my last knee surgery. Orthopedic doctor put a stop to that and my interest faded. Tennis has become less popular and as such once crowded public courts now sit empty even on weekends. Our local private club is taking out some courts to build an event center.

Huh? I've been watching for 30+ years. I've seen McEnroe, Connors, Sampras, Agassi, etc..., and today's crop are the best that have ever played: Nadal, Federer, and Njokovic.

There are still very talented players today. I doubt the old timers would keep up. But the public seems to have moved on. In women's tennis I'll bet you can't get an answer to who's the best after the Williams sisters when you ask.

I played tennis rather seriously some 35 years ago. But my Achilles tendon issues put a stop to that in my mid 20's., then my knees Big guys like me are not supposed to do those intense start-stops motions repeatedly - the parts wear out and break down.
Once in a while I try to watch tennis on TV, but I cannot get past the loud grunting on *every* ground stroke that has become fashionable. Especially with the ladies. So I just don't watch...... But the list of things that I no longer watch grows with each passing year. |
