Default For Emily

Simon & Garfunkel, 1966 on the Parsley, Sage, Rosemary, and Thyme album.
I always loved this tune...

Paul Simon wrote it and played a wonderful 12 string background whilst Art Garfunkel sang it live here.....

Wow, that was great. Perhaps my favorite Simon & Garfunkel tune, it always makes me incredibly sad but it's romantic at the same time.

Loved the arrangement. And the reverb completely captured the feel of the version I grew up on from Simon & Garfunkel's Greatest Hits LP which was a live recording.

I also was surprised by, and thoroughly enjoyed, the ending. The original gets super big, but you played it quiet and heartfelt. Nice touch.

Thanks for sharing.

Cheers,

-Dave

Thank you for that! Lovely!

This song is on my list to play, some day. I have some version I found waiting for my skills to develop, but if you are willing share yours, I would attempt that, it really is lovely. If not, no worries. Thanks!

Thank you Rob.
Dave, I agree it's melancholy for me too. I gravitate towards those tunes for some reason.
I tried at first to do the crescendo build-up ending with my arrangement, but it wasn't working, so I went with a more mellow approach.

Thanks so much for listening and for your comments.

We walked on frosted fields of juniper and lamplight.

I've always thought that line was so visually evocative.
