Default Take My Hands, Precious Lord - 1938

"Take My Hand, Precious Lord" (a.k.a. "Precious Lord, Take My Hand") is a gospel song. The lyrics were written by Thomas A. Dorsey, who also adapted the melody.

I dedicate this song to all suffering peoples of our world, from war, hunger, abuse, loss of loved ones, loneliness, poverty, ignorance, and all forms of pain.

Feedback is very much appreciated.
Looking forward to all the goodness and humbling moments of 2023!!!

Very nice, Rene. Thank you for sharing this.

(Just an aside - is the guitar in the background with the “mr” sound hole a Manuel Rodriguez guitar?)

This was one of my mother's favorite hymns. We sang it at her funeral service.

The composer was Thomas Dorsey - not THAT Dorsey Bros guy. This Tommy Dorsey was an African American musician who at one time played (piano) with Ma Rainey. He later became a preacher but continued playing music. On a preaching/playing trip out of town his wife and child lost their lives in a home fire. It was devastating for Mr. Dorsey, and out of that experience came this hymn.

Renee. No words. Your voice is magic. What a beautiful and reflective song. I had never heard it before, and I’m happy the first time I hear it, it’s through you.

Wow, I did not know this background on this song.
Sometimes grief can bring about a lot of love and goodness, and this great loss for Mr Dorsey brought about a beautiful and heart-felt truth, which will be with us forever.
Truly a beautiful song.
Rest In Peace to your Mom, and thank you for this beautiful message.
And this is also one of my favorite hymn.
God Bless You!
Respectfully,
Rene
