Surprised nobody mentioned the Tonedexter, best of both worlds...

For one, it's next to impossible to get one at the moment due to the chip shortage. To that end, I did mention the LR Baggs Voiceprint in an earlier post to this thread.

This question has arisen before. Once, I made a recording of my Kinscherff High Noon to help settle the issue. The guitar has Highlander IP-1 pickup built in by the luthier. I recording some playing on two tracks, one directly from the pickup, the other track from an Audix microphone. The two tracks were very similar. It was hard to tell much difference between them. That was the conclusion of the fellow to whom I sent the tracks as well.

Acoustic amps like the fishman loudbox mini may be an option.
You can run both the pick up and a mic through it and use the line out to record.

Lots of good comments here including… “Advice: do not return the guitar. You can use both sources, mix them up to satisfy your musical needs...”

About a year ago I picked up a Alvarez AP66ESHB. Though I didn’t feel I needed a pickup I found the right price on one that included it at a “nice” price. Given that the Baggs StagePro is an economy pickup I was pleasantly surprised at the tone I was able to get from it. I put up a demo on my YouTube channel comparing the sound from the p/u, through a mic, and blended. Here’s a link if you’re interested in listening.

This is the key point that needs to be emphasized, IMO.

.
I would not thought of that. From someone with experience I would guess.

Be careful - when you loop with a mic- everything the mic hears gets looped... and you might be surprised what the mic heard. Noises happen, and they sound worse and worse as they repeat.

I have used a few different pickups and agree that under saddle can have issues…until I installed a Trance Amulet. I haven’t found any thing like it even Dazzo. Now I have three of them. Natural sounding. Not to hard to install. In my opinion and experience, “It’s the Real Thing!” Of course all the usual disclaimers apply, YMMV stuff like that. I look forward to see where you go with this. Best of luck.
