Default BATTLE OF THE BRONZE

...Vs. Monel

Just curious, which d'yall prefer and why ?

Bronze strings or Monel strings? Obviously, i'm talking about standard Acoustic Guitar here, not nylon-string guitars, which are another animal all together.

I've used GHS Silk and Bronze, Martin Retros (Monels), Martin Authentic Acoustic 80/20 and GHS Vintage Bronze on my Yamaha FG800. I definitely prefer the Silk and Bronze by a fair margin over the Retros and by a slimmer margin over the other two. None of the other 3 were bad per se, but the Silk & Bronze strings have the tone that is just better to my ears. It's all subjective though, so to each his or her own. I would place the 80/20s next in preference after the Silk & Bronze.

I think Monels (and Nickel Bronze) are best for Hog guitars.

80/20 is best for modern voiced rosewood guitars

Aluminum Bronze is best for Martin Rosewood imho.

Haven't tried Monels but I've tried most others and always come back to D'Addario PB EJ17's for my all my acoustics.

Probably as many different answers as there are guitarists, but here's mine:
Love monels on my archtop and resonator. PB's on my flat-top (Spruce over Hog). I did try Monels on it, and they worked, but the PB's work better. IMHO.
