It refers to the big control panel set into the side of the guitar.

The Artec pickup system looks very like the setup used at one time in Wechter's imported guitar line, but this doesn't look like any Wechter I ever recall.

With seven sliders controlling EQ, piezo vs. magnetic, mike volume, sharpness, etc, the only way to make rom for that is a hole in the side.

The nicest thing about that arrangement is, when the pickup fails, or you wish it would fail, you can remove it and -walla! - you have a factory-cut soundhole. That's what I did with the cheapo Fishman Isys on my Seagull Mini Jumbo, and it was a real improvement. I'm keeping this Artec pickup, though. It will take me a year to try out all the multi-pickup permutations.

I'm noticing that the latest guitars are coming with internal electronics on the back of the top, with dials accessible through the soundhole. Is it really harmless to mount that dead weight on the soundboard?

Default another clue?

I just noticed that there's no marker at the third fret. Is that evidence of US origin? Chinese? Russian?

Geez, I really love this guitar, so much that I want to know something about it!
