I had that happen to me when I first got my Martin, the high E would do it. It only took a short time for my left had to automatically adjust. Hasn't happen since. That was in June of 2006.

For what it's worth, the string spacing didn't bother me at all. Matter of fact I had to remember to think about how it felt, as it wasn't anything that demanded my attention. I know I'm just one player and that has no bearing on another person's opinion but that's my .02

I'm so glad I chose to stay home in PA for this show. No, not for the freezing temps & impending snow storm ... LOTS of models to sift through and I needed every bit of 5 hours to evaluate these in a quiet setting. There's no place like the Martin Guitar factory. I might even go back today to form some 2nd impressions and get more time with the A/E models & that Fishman Aura VT Enhance. First impressions are GOOD.

A pleasant surprise for me was the 1 11/16" nut with on the new 000-42 Authentic. Many on the Martin forum complained that the narrower nut was a deal breaker for them, but even though I prefer a 1 3/4" nut, I found the neck quite comfortable.
Great to hear about the 000-42 Authentic neck. So does that mean the top to bottom depth is on the medium to thicker side? If so, I think I'll like that.

Looking forward to trying a 000-17 as well.

Thx for the update Ted.

I've got a pre-order in on the D-222 pending reports. I saw your video last night with that guitar. What is your opinion on it comparing it to a D-18? It seems to sound a lot like a D-18.

Medium thick describes it quite well, Brendan. I honestly wasn't going to order any till I tried it yesterday, but opinion has definitely changed after playing it. I suspect this guitar will be a better seller in store, rather than online.

Ok, time to get back to the grind. We have several appointments this morning and it looks like the line to get in the show has finally thinned.

Wiew from our balcony at the Marriott.

The D-222 has a lot more power in the midrange, compared to a D-18. It's not boxy or lacking bass, but it rings and projects in the mids quite a bit.

Medium maybe, but I'm hesitant to use the term "thick".

Structurally, it is a 12 fret D-18. I'd expect it sound like one - especially in a recording. I'd also expect there to be noticeable differences in person.

I agree with all that. But, I would like to hear from somebody who has played it and they appear to be the only ones. I don't need to buy a 100 year commemorative guitar that sounds like a D 18.

Thanks. How does the base compare with the 41 or 45? How was the volume?

What can you tell me about the 00-17S? How is the bass response on this model? Anything close to the 000-17SM?

Volume is there for sure. The D-45 & D-41 have quite a bit more bass than the D-222. 222 has "enough" bass but it's not bass-heavy by any stretch.

To my ears the 000-17S has more bass and it sounds more versatile for it. The 00-17S rings with clean, snappy fundamental notes but lacks a full-sounding low-end for my personal preference & playing style.
