Default 00-21 Kingston Trio for OM-28V - Fair Trade?

Hey folks,

I have a 2007 Martin 00-21 Kingston Trio (only 100 made) that I am considering trading with a friend for a Martin OM-28V.

Obviously they are very different guitars apart from both being Martin's and having Rosewood back and sides. But what I would really like your opinions on, is whether this would be a fair trade in terms of the guitars value.

The 00-21KT is in immaculate condition, having been owned by a collector for most of its life - one of the reasons I don't play it as often or freely as I would like to. The OM-28V is in excellent condition, but has a scuff or 2 and has had an LR Baggs undersaddle pickup fitted by a previous owner.

Obviously there is a lot less info on the 00-21KT and it's value on the 2nd hand market.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts!
GT

Im not expert but it seems to me that a guitar as rare as the KT would be worth a lot more than the 28v on the market. It might take a while to find a buyer but thats what I would do if I had a guitar I wasnt playing.

Thank you for the feedback.. Ye it is really hard to find a gauge on what market price would be on the KT.

Hopefully a few more insights get shared here. Initially I was thinking the values on the 2nd hand market to be similar, but now I am not so sure...

I played and nearly bought a KT 6-7 years ago. It was $3999 at Wildwood Guitars then, I would expect current value of yours to exceed that of an OM28V by at least 25% and maybe significantly more. I recall the one KT that showed up in the agf classifieds 3-4 years ago sold right away.

I Love The Kingston Trio!

Bob Shane showed me his new Kingston Trio Martin Dreadnought when he invited me to the Kingston's show in Chautauqua, New York back in 1998. Chautauqua Concert Review

Thanks for the feedback Mr Paul!

I'm glad I thought to post the question here before just going ahead with the deal... It is cool having such a special and limited edition run guitar, but being in such pristine nick makes playing it a little nerve racking..

Definitely feeling my feet getting a little cold for a straight trade though.

Very cool SpruceTop! Ye the 2007 00-21 is the Dave Guard signature model.

I played that KT in Wildwood's shop in Louisville CO when they were offering it.

Pretty guitar but with its 1-7/8" nut it felt like an aircraft carrier to my left hand, something I'd regret having.

You'd be wise to sell it right now before the economy crashes. Hold the cash and if we're all still mostly here next year, find a nice OM you'll enjoy playing regularly.
