Default Stringjoy Foxwoods - Light Gauge (12-54) Coated Phosphor Bronze Acoustic - views?

Anyone played the Stringjoy Foxwoods - Light Gauge (12-54) Coated Phosphor Bronze Acoustic Strings that can offer a view? Have been playing Elixr Phosphor Bronze 12-53s on my Maton Performer for years but time for a change to shake things up a bit. Cheers.

Default Tension

Hey Lew,

They are not as slick as Elixir nanowebs and they are about 10lbs less tension too so they have noticeably less tension at pitch.
I installed a set 2 weeks ago and they had no ‘break in’ period and still look new. Probably won’t get 6 months like Elixir or XS but they sound pretty good so far.

Aaaahh! That probably explains why the set I put on my Brook last week to replace Elixir Nano PB 12-53s are giving me some fret-buzz. If I decide to continue with them, I’ll need to check relief and adjust if/as necessary. ATM, apart from the buzz, I like them.

I use Stringjoy Foxwoods on a couple of guitars and like the feel and tone. They seem to last a long time for me and are worth a try to see what you think. However, I think the have more tension than Elixir. Stringjoy has a string tension calculator (https://tension.stringjoy.com/) and they told me they have the same tension as their Naturals. D’Addario XS have lower tension than Elixir. Here are the string tension charts for Lights below.

Stringjoy 173.5
Elixir Nano 162
D’Addario XS 156.3

Interesting post, Haasome! My comment re buzz still applies - on checking more carefully I find the buzz happens when playing in the middle of the neck, suggesting excess relief, and of course increased tension would/could result in increased relief.

I’ll check the relief and try a truss-rod tweak if it’s shifted. They are very nice-sounding strings though…

I went from the same Elixirs to the same Stringjoys and like them very much.

They feel like they have a lighter coating to me.

Stringjoy Foxwoods 12/54s have become my strings of choice, displacing D'Addario XS.

To my ears and in my hands they have superior tone and feel. I don't notice any of the coating slickness like I experience moderately with XS' and hugely with Elixers. Five of my six acoustics are now strung with them.

Longevity-wise they hold up pretty well, though perhaps a little less than XS'. I kept my daily player Boucher SG-41-G strung with it's initial set of Foxwoods for exactly 5 months. I changed them yesterday prior to playing a show and I definitely noticed difference. For me, on a daily player I think they'll last optimally for 3-4 months.

"Worth a try" says I.

Anyone know if the Foxwoods strings are available in singles? I’m trying to build a custom 12 string set, but don’t see this option on the website. I’m emailed Stringjoy but they haven’t gotten back to me….
