I'm not familiar with Ashton amps, but a quick look at their website shows a line of acoustic guitars with 30 and 60 watt options. They also have a 50 watt valve electric guitar amp which matches your description better. Assuming you have the electric amp, you'll never get a good acoustic sound of that - electric amps are very specifically designed to shape and color the tone of an electric guitar, but that shaping tends to not be very pleasant with acoustic tone. I wouldn't touch anything on the guitar or add any preamps till you've tried it with an acoustic specific amp or possible a PA system (although you will likely need a preamp for that).
