I’m a breathless train
running out of steam,
hope just a memory
that turned these wheels,
all destinations
incomplete,

disappeared,

An engine made up
of sinew and smoke,
pushed and shoved
rattled and rolled,
run from all my ghosts
hide in fear,

The clouds rolled by
heading home,
stayed for a year
then were gone,
flooded my heart
with their tears,

End of the line
out somewhere,
she listens for
a whistle clear,
