Martin CF1
Hi all, don’t have a bunch of experience with archtops and have run across this Martin. It is a 2005 near mint condition. The asking price is 2500 does this sound like a reasonable price? Anyone own one of these?

Martin CF-1
That sounds like a very good price. I own a 2005 CF-1 "Martin American" archtop and it's a great guitar. According to luthier Dale Unger who designed the guitars and supervised production, and Martin, the guitars were made in the Martin factory in Nazareth from 2004-2007. A total of approximately 260 CF-1 guitars and another 160 CF-2 models, which are 1/2 inch slimmer and featured dual non floating humbucker pickups, compared to the floating single PAF Armstrong on the CF-1 were made. Martin even made a CF-1 for Eric Clapton, which was sold as part of the guitar auction to benefit his substance abuse charity. So they are somewhat unusual and unique.
Current listings for the CF-1 on Reverb are quite a bit higher than the price you're seeing. If it is in fact near mint w/no issues, has the original hand wound Armstrong pickup and the OEM tweed case, I would seriously consider it if you are looking for a high-quality, American made archtop guitar. Keep in mind that the CF-1 (and CF-2) has a laminated spruce top and maple back, with solid maple sides. Lots of high quality archtop guitars feature laminate woods so it's not as much of an issue like it is with a flattop guitar. My .02. Hope it helps! |
