Default 2018 Kostal MD for $10K

Wildwood Guitars marked this one down over $6K, they say condition is excellent. Seems like an awfully good price for one of these from what I've seen others go for.

Wow, that would be the closest I could come to owning one.

I would chalk this up mainly to the back and sides being Wenge rather than BRW, and Kostal being not as hyped as he was 2-3 years ago. Most guitar buyers don't know what Wenge is. It sounds like a good deal to me.

That top, with as substantial runout, may also dissuade buyers who are dissuaded by such things....

The fact that the top is 80-year-old Adirondack/red spruce given to Jason Kostal by Ervin Somogyi might make up for the runout. Maybe that’s why Ervin Somogyi gave it away? If you look at the photo of the guitar in the case, the runout isn’t as pronounced, so it may just be exaggerated by the flash/lighting.

At that price, I’m tempted to buy it and have Jason covert it to left-handed…

Good point on the runout. Won't affect the sound, but some people will care.

It would be a 10 page "debate" if it were in the general forum.

In other news, I just saw on instagram that Dream Guitars just took in Ervin Somogyi’s first steel string guitar…

I think Red Spruce + Wenge is a potent combination.
Ervin himself has written that Wenge is a good alternative to Brazilian rosewood.
I think this is a solid deal for someone who wants a Kostal to actually play and perform music on, as opposed to buying a Kostal with museum quality rare woods to display as a collector trophy.

Seems a good price - however, my 2011 Kostal cost c. $4k when I commissioned it! I am pleased for Jason though that his prices have soared - world class.

My experience is that those of us who have guitars costing north of 25K play them. I play mine daily multiple times. If you ever end up in Bozeman reach out and come play them too. That is if you can get my daughter to stop playing them herself. She loves this Halland DC-H Port Orford over Braz.

Also, agreed that’s a sweet price for the Kostal. Hopefully someone snags it and loves the **** out of it.

I hear you, I play my Kostal OMC every day. Worth every penny I paid for it.

What an awesome guitar and even better pic! Gage makes special guitars, great to see you (and yours!) are enjoying them.

I am so tempted to buy that just to do a demo video.

Lucky fella! I have yet to play a Kostal but they sure seem fabulous. Keep enjoying it.
