I'm embarrassed to say I don't remember much about the DSS-17 or the 517. The one thing was the Martin had really tight tuning pegs when I was trying to tune it.

My take on this model is that it is noticeably lighter than my previous E10SS and E20SS . I think they scaled down on both top ,back and side plate thickness The bridge plate seems to be a bit smaller as well.
Classical finish is what I see one of the shops calling it. I saw a video from Acoustic Shoppe at Winter NAMM Eastman booth talking about them.
And yes definitely lighter than my E20SS.

I like that a lot, great looking guitar.

Twenty years ago I went in for strings and came out with my old Guild D-46. That was a lucky day for me!

I stumbled on his videos. I think I preferred the Collings in this line up but I sure would hope so considering it A LOT more coin.

Thanks again everyone! Perhaps sometimes the guitar picks us.

congrats OP !

nice guitar!

so nice, I went out and got one for myself

folks, this guitar is advertised as 1 11/16

FWIW: mine measures right in the middle of 1 11/16 and 1 3/4

1.715

pretty close to the Gibsons 1.725, or 1 23/32 , or whatever they call it now

Oh, my... I'm really resisting the urge with this one, mostly b/c of the nut width. But docwatsonfan's comment is making me reconsider before they're all gone. Last year, I got one of their LTD models (a 12-fret 00) for my daughter, and it's simply wonderful.

You all got me curious so I measured mine. Mine is 1 11/16s, maybe just a hair over.
Anyway, looking forward to some more NGDs with this model.
