A larger wood ring over everything.

Looking good. Go with those inner and outer rings and you will have a great rosette.

Jeez, I don't know Ryan, you got any snake skin pattern lying around? If not just look in the corner or go outside and I am sure there will be inspiration....

Large wood ring

I thought I would just post some progress shots. Remember it's just day two even if this thread has more than 100 posts.

Center seam reinforcement:

Back braces on:

Bending the sides:

A little extra cooking:

Gluing up the rim:

Something to work with:

Thanks to everyone that is following along. I hope you're enjoying your power over me. Another thing, I listen to books while I work (all genres). I finished the latest one today. Last thread Nemoman gave a great suggestion. Anyone got a must read they are waiting to share?

Ok, a little more input on the rosette. I had something in my mind going with the rosette and I got to here:

If you can see, I've penciled in lines for another inner and outer ring of black/white/black purfling. But now I got it in, I don't know. Should I move forward with the original idea or stop here or glue in a larger wood ring over everything. Any thoughts?
Another thin wooden strip around the outside, maybe Moradora, followed by another b/w/b Purfling.

Default Plenty of Cooks!

Ryan, you are a glutton for punishment… normally, the odds are pretty good with the two of you containing me… But to think you can take on the world yourself when the boss is gone, you must be a glutton for punishment!

But I am so impressed that you would take on all of us with our opinions. So very fun. Keep up the good work!

I especially enjoyed "Boys in the Boat" read by Edward Herrmann. You know the end of the story from the very beginning, yet it is a page-turner! You learn both history and what America is made of, while learning to appreciate the ethics of hard work.

I like this but not the penciled-in rings - I think that's going to look too busy. Why not the doubled BWB purflings around it - as pictured earlier with the wide wooden ring? A little more minimalist - that's my preference. An OM needs a pick guard (I know you guys don't often do that), so half the rosette gets covered up anyway.

Thanks Bob. Really this is pretty much like a custom build in a microcosm. Most clients that we have go through all these choices several times typically. There's hand holding, guiding, sketching, working something up, scrapping it, and starting again. That's ok! It's part of a process to get the best instrument. It's something I have learned to navigate. And really I like it that so many people are involved.

Boys in the Boat was a great book! You actually recommended it in the last boss is away thread. And while I didn't read it right away, I did get to it. Fabulous history. When I go to GAL this summer, I might try to make it by the boathouse up there if possible.

A request for another vote? We'll get to that one later.

Lots of good ideas here, I'm still not sure which way we're going yet. Seems like my bosses are divided on simple rosette designs.

I like the rosette as it is in your picture. No need for further complication!

Also... I'll vote purple for the cloth. For no other reason than its my favourite colour.

Ok purple is going to win the side brace fabric choice, but I have 2 votes for leave the rosette as is, 2 for large wood ring, 2 for inner and outer purfling rings. I may be leaning one way, but I'll give an hour to break the tie. Otherwise, I'll have to move forward.
