I've gone over the carbon fiber as my gig guitars. And while I use my more expensive highly customized Emeralds, I'd check into some of the Rainsongs. Find a nice used one for down around the $1k mark and it will serve you very well. Tough as nails and more than good enough for live play.

I think Eastman OM’s are hard to beat under a $1k. The E-series LTD models should have all the specifications you mentioned.

"Methos" called it. Nothing more to say. Good reliable sound. Very stable action. There isn't any such thing as changes in temperature or humidity any more. If someone throws a bottle at you during a gig, you can lift up the guitar to block it, probably without any harm (note that I'm not ADVISING doing that if you can avoid it...).

The new Road Series Martin's might be worth a look? Of course a CF guitar is most bullet proof.

I forgot about the Eastman OM's. You can get one of those (all solid) for a lot less than $1k.

At the risk of jeopardizing my account here (it's against the rules to discourage someone from buying another guitar) it would be a lot cheaper to just put a good pickup of your choice in your Larrivee, which you have already and like. Or as Methos said, find a new or used Rainsong CH-OM or CH-WS guitar with the electronics in it, and you'll be set for gigging. I've gone all carbon fiber for any gigging, and the wood guitars are slowly leaving.

2 suggestions...

The cheapest option would be to replace your faulty pickup. I put a Fishman Matrix Infinity UST pickup in my old Martin OM1 and I'm really pleased with it. It's easy to use, gives no feedback and sounds great.

For option number two I would suggest locating a used Martin OM1 for $500 to $700.00, then put the aforementioned pickup in there with a bone saddle and some bluegrass strings on it. Should easily be able to stay in your budget and get great sound in a guitar you don't mind playing out with. YMMV and all that. Good luck!

I'd add an Ovation to your choices. While they are usually up for heated debates they do come to life plugged in and can take a beating and stand up nice and tall week to week. Good luck hope this helps.

Springsteen and The Eagles use Takamines on stage. Maybe there's something to it.

I've been using a Taylor 114e for a decade and it is a very good, gig worthy instrument. Don't let the 100 series fool you. They are excellent guitars and will hang with their more expensive counterparts any day of the week.

So does Garth, and numerous other country singers.

But to the OP’s question, I agree with those that recommend a pickup change. There’s no need to buy a new guitar.

Apologies if that blows the “Affirmation over information” rule.

well I took my Larrivee to Sam Ash for a set up. He talked me into Elixir nanoweb[11-52]. I like them . He shaved the saddle down ,it IS easier to play! I plugged it into a Soloamp at the store , it sounds a little better ,but I'm still not happy with it.I need this guitar for gigs. He recommended a K&K pickup. Will this help? who knows. I hate tearing out this expensive pickup and getting nowhere!
