Yes, clear. And brand new. Color change was almost instant.

One of the down sides of drip filling with superglue is it makes any bruising of the wood show up as darker,
I would recommend some acetone and remove what you have done, once its all out, lightly sand the damaged area and then seal it before refilling with superglue Steve

In my initial post I proposed sealing with shellac and was talked out of it. What do you recommend sealing with? As for sanding it, I don't see how I could. Quite a small parameter and likely 2/3 the plate thickness deep. Any suggestions welcomed. Nice repair on your photos by the way. I would be happy with your results.

If you break through any protective coating over the wood you have to reseal, I would not use shellac in this instance, shellac is to much of an amber colour.
You could use any clear sealer, even egg white will do Steve

Steve, thank you for your guidance and the instructional video. I cleaned out the dark ca, sealed with egg white, and drop filled about 5 thin coats. Results are much better. Before and after pic.20190624_083213.jpg20190622_112941.jpg

Massive difference.
Consider next time for further improvement. Smoothing the hard edges with sandpaper, steaming some of the crushed area and using a razor to realign and straighten some of the bent grain Steve

Here's what I would have recommended:
1) Clean with naptha first. 2) Steam out the dent as much as possible while taking care not to burn the finish. 3) Seal with shellac. You ALWAYS seal with shellac if you are going to use CA. 4) Drop fill with CA. Level and buff. A dent like that on a polyester finish will never be perfect but it should yield a decent repair. |
