Default NSD - new Squareneck day

Got a nice new Squareneck last weekend in Munich. It was interesting meeting the builder and talking about his instruments.

Now I need to get much better playing it!

I had one of those days last week, but mine is nowhere as pretty as yours.

Please tell us more...

It was made by Markus Koch, in Munich (Koch guitars)

The wood is solid Pommele Mahagoni (not sure if the English name is different).

It has a beard legend cone with a #14 spider and floating "cone" under the f-holes. I think this might be similar to the beard design, but I don't really know as I have not had the opportunity to see one myself.

Open soundwell, with 3 post construction and a carbon fiber topped maple bridge.

Overall it has a nice clear tone with lots of volume. Compared to my old 150€ squareneck this one seems to generate volume effortlessly. :-) It allows for a lot more expression, but also gets out of hand under my amateur hands ;-)

I was able to demo a few guitars (he works from his home in Munich) and found him to be a very nice guy, willing to talk about the guitars and certainly passionate about what he is doing. I also placed one of his regular guitars (dread size) spruce over walnut that was exceptional.
