You never know who you're going to meet an Open Mic.
Ain't that the truth no less than , Tom Rush, John Denver, and Bob Dylan, have all played at the Jackson Hole Hootenanny open mic .

I learned about Wyndham Hill through this forum a few years ago and I'm a big fan of the early stuff. We picked up a few vinyl records secondhand: "Turtle's Navel," "It Takes a Year," the 1981 sampler (Robbie Basho's "Clair de Lune" is astounding), and yes, "Winter Solstice," which we've been listening to a lot over the last few days.

Thanks for the recommendation, AGF!

Does anyone know what guitar Ackerman played on "Turtle's Navel"?

He usually plays a Froggy Bottom K model, but don't know if he did that early on.

I hope this thread has been going long enough that I'm not derailing it.

A few years ago we had a thread where we made up what our
"album covers" would look like...

Thanks! I've noticed he often has a Froggy, but there are some videos out there where he's playing something that looks... not Froggy. But they are blurry.

Me too. I was in 10th grade when a friend's mother gave me a cassette she made that had "Turning: Turning Back" on one side and "Slow Circle" on the other. I had been playing guitar for years at that point, but that night in headphones my brain was permanently re-wired. Getting to tell him that at your wedding thirty-something years later was pretty wonderful.

My introduction to Windham Hill came during our "pre Canaa" (Catholic marriage prep of sorts) in '88. George Winston was playing in the background. It was fantastic, and I made a mental note to ask the program director about the music. He was equally excited to turn me on to new music. Michael Hedges soon followed and I was off & running
