Default Turn the Page by Bob Seger (cover)

Kevwind did a cover of this song a while ago and reminded me about this cool song, so I hope he doesn't mind that he inspired me to want to do my own cover.

I have always thought this great Bob Seger song was really appealing and interestingly, it's not terribly hard to play and would make a good song for a new guitar player to learn. To help with this, I put up chord diagrams along with the video.

The live version of this song uses a really melodic saxophone line to start and end the video, but since I am not a sax player, I used my Gibson Les Paul to play that saxophone line.

The acoustic guitar I am using is a 2006 Martin 000-28VS. I didn't worry about changing the strings on this guitar since I am palm muting my finger picking throughout most of the song.

Thanks for listening; I hope everyone is well!

- Glenn

PS: Here is the live version of Bob Seger's song from YouTube:

I find it interesting that his Les Paul has a cherry sunburst finish similar to the one I am playing. Mine is from 2002. Nice guitar for sure.

Great iconic tune from the Motor City’s favorite son. Nice job on this one, Glenn. The Les Paul stood in admirably for that famous sax sound from Alto Reed.

Thanks for the post.

Thank you Roger,

I appreciate your kind comments. And your being from Michigan, I'm sure you are well acquainted with Bob Seger's history.

I really did love that Sax solo from Alto Reed! It just oozes smokey solitude under a lone streetlamp. I have a grandson in high school on the other side of the USA who is a pretty good sax player. I wish I could have had him in my studio for this cover. I'm glad you thought the electric guitar solo was an okay substitute.

I hope you and your family are all doing well. Happy Easter to you and your wife, Roger!

Nice song and great performance as always. I could imagine Mark Knopfler doing that song. Really nice little Martin too!

Thank you Fred!

I'm pleased that you thought this came out okay. And yes, the ending does build pretty dramatically to a close. Of course, I copied that from Bob Seger's version, but even so, I agree it adds a lot of energy there at the end.

Happy Easter to you and your family, Fred. I hope all is well for you!

Hi Roscoe!

Well, I am glad I am helping to introduce you to some new music even if it's old. I always think that a person can always appreciate more music. It's kind of a way to get in touch with the emotions of more people, which I think is always very cool.

I'm pleased that you felt this came out well, Roscoe. Thanks for your kind encouragement!

Hi Honkycat!

Thank you! I'm so glad you felt this worked out okay.

Yes, I could imagine Mark Knopfler doing this song, too. It's a story kind of song, so very much like the songs Mark Knopfler comes up with!

Interestingly enough, I have been listening to Mark Knopfler's solo albums over and over lately as I work out in the late afternoon every day. I just love his stuff and particularly his super melodic guitar playing. What a gift he has been to the music world!

Enjoy your Easter Honkycat! I hope all is well for you!

Hi Mike,

Well, I wish I were a sax player, but since I'm not, the electric guitar through a Marshall amp and some light Boss DS-1 stomp box distortion will have to do!

Thanks for taking time to listen to this and to offer such kind feedback!

It was a fun project; I really enjoyed this one. I spent a fair amount of time layering various virtual synthesizer pads to build some of the background keyboard sounds. Previously I had not spent much time exploring all the plug-in stuff I have access to in my recording program. It's a massive amount of stuff and possibilities.

I hope all is well for you! Keep up your good work!

Thank you Tim!

I appreciate your listening and your kind feedback!

I suppose there is a side of me that likes rock and pop music, and I really do appreciate the sounds that an electric guitar can make. This was a fun project and it seemed to be easy to keep my voice out front because nothing was ever competing to drown out my voice.

Thanks for taking time to watch and comment, Tim. I hope all is well for you and Jack!
