Default 2020 Corvette downunder price gouge!

So the new Corvette is scheduled to be sold here in Australia next year ... but check out the price gouge!

Currently sells in USA for US$60.000 = Australian $87.000

New price here ... $170.000

Australia and the USA have a Free Trade Agreement so there's NO IMPORT DUTY!

Yes, GM USA re-engineer the cars for right-hand drive but that mark up is hard to believe.

And GM aren't the only ones - remember the late 80's/early 90's Ford Mercury Capri convertible?

Designed and built here in Australia and SHIPPED to the USA- Aussie tourists found them in the USA being sold brand new for less than here in Australia!

Sadly USA made guitars suffer a similar gouge here ... ouch!

Not sure I believe that you can buy a new Vette for that price here.

I just googled 2020 Corvette and found this;

'Pricing for the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette is now online and reveals that the new model is apparently a performance bargain. At a base cost of $59,995 (after the $1,095 destination fee), buyer's get a mid-engined sports car with 490 horsepower (365 kilowatts) on tap'

If demand exceeds supply I can see dealers asking more - they did it with the original Datsun 240Z back in the early 1970's.

I’m not a car guy but I’d be shocked if they sold any base models, even at that price. If I was going to buy I’d spend whatever I needed to get it loaded to the gills.

The first ones will be loaded up models but after the craze settles, you'll be able to buy them for less than 60k. Vettes really are a performance bargain. Fully loaded top performance models will be a little under double.

I went to the unveiling of the 2020 Corvette at the Kennedy Space Center last month. They are, in a word, impressive. And, yes, they start at right around $60K and, yes, people are actually ordering them at that price.

This one's a tad more expensive, being a convertible:
