I do it most days. We have indoor-outdoor cats that love to sleep on me at night and track in foxtails and burrs. Best to make the bed to protect the clean sheets.

I spent almost 10 years in the Army in the Viet Nam era and we were taught in basic training to make the bunk and do it the right way. That training has taught me more than making a bed. (I sure don't do it the Army way now!). But it taught me attention to detail, which is a great lesson to learn in life. In the military attention to detail can save your life or someone else's life. Making the bed is not so much of a serious nature now, but it is a great habit that does me no harm to do, and makes me feel like a small accomplishment has been made. Making a bed, not making a bed, like toilet paper rolls, over the top or under the bottom, take your pick!

I shower, I shave, I dress, I wash the dishes, I lock my doors, I make the bed, I put on a seatbelt, I put on shoes....always. There's no schedule so sometimes my wife beats me to some of things but they get done daily.

I can see if someone is clinically depressed, inform or ill that they don't do the responsible thing but otherwise........ no excuse. I may be more intrigued with how this even came up.

Puts me in mind of a most excellent Wilco song.

That's an interesting sequence. I'm with you on the first three steps but I'm not sure I'd do the rest in that order necessarily.

But, to each their own!

Some of the things you've deemed as "responsible" really aren't a question of that at all. Making the bed, shaving...why bother if nobody's going to see or care? Not a responsiblity as much as an obsession or need to make yourself feel like you accomplished something. Shoes also...not important if i'm not leaving home or going farther than just out my door. Just as an aside, a seatbelt is pretty useless unless you're in the car.

I've had times in my life when I have, and definitely will again, but right now is not one of them but pretty soon plan on changing that up.

Yes AND no for me. Make it every weekday before I go to work. But on weekends, I let it be unless we have guests coming over. Reason: afternoon naps have worked their way into my Saturday and Sunday routines, and I'm just not going to make the bed twice in the same day.

Gotta draw the dang line somewhere.

Of course, I'm be retiring in about a year, so my daily habits may be coming up for review, as well. We'll see.

I made up my bed first thing in the morning for years. This basically involved straightening out the sheets and comforter and repositioning the pillows. Years ago, I read somewhere (don't remember where) that it was healthier to leave the comforter down to let the sheets air out and dry. Apparently our bodies perspire during sleep, sometimes a little, other times alot. So, now I make up the bed sometime after lunch. If someone comes over, I just close the bedroom door.
