Deep River Blues
This is an old song... Doc Watson sang it. More recently Tommy E did a wicked version with Jason Isbell. Well I aint got Tommy's chops (as you will see) and I aint got Jason's voice, and I dont normally play with a thumb pick... but dang if I didnt enjoy trying to play this tune. I gotst to work on them fills!
This is recorded on my iphone with an Apogee Mic, and I added a second track with the shakers and a little harmony on the last two verses. Hope you like it?

Well, that's just wonderful. Perfectly funky playing and great singing. I love how the harmony comes in later. How did you do the second track and combine it with the video? I've done a number of just playin' and singing' videos (also with an Apogee mic) but never thought about adding a second track. Is that some strange combination of Garage Band and iMovie or something?

Hi Sal!
Well done! Good job on this! I have always enjoyed this song but I don't think my wife would enjoy hearing me sing that she looks like a waterfowl. She would react to that rather badly, I'm pretty sure! Great job! - Glenn

That wasn’t any kind of backhanded compliment. To me, being able to play that loose and funky and getting the feel of the song across is exactly how it SHOULD be played. For a blues like that, I don’t want to hear clean precision, but exactly the kind of bouncy, moving rhythm you did it with. I’m really new to fingerpicking and I aspire to be able to play stuff like you did on this tune.

Thanks fellas...
And ray I have a thick skin... I didn’t think you were insulting me, but rather being more kind with the written word than you needed to.. Good night all.

That was fun. Enjoyed the guitar playing and your voice was superb. Would have liked to see the head that came with the singing neck, but musically you nailed it all around. And I also enjoyed the surprise harmony.
Well done! Cheers Dave |

Hi, yup, that was an enjoyable piece, thanks, but I confess I do have a problem with headless singers.
Best, Ol' Andy
