I agree personally, if my wife ever puts the roll in the bathroom with it coming out from under, I change it. And you are correct, over the top is the "right" way, but, others probably disagree!

Ive spent 27 years changing the roll every time. I swear she does it on purpose.

I also have my own tube of toothpaste because she refuses to put it in the drawer that separates our two sinks and I’m tired of reaching.

I overhead her tell my youngest son a couple years ago that she deliberately folds my dress socks “the wrong way” just to “mess” with me. (She used a different word for “mess”. )

Every morning before I leave for work and I also unload the dishwasher and place anything in the sink into the dishwasher- except for our cat who has a thing for sitting in the sink.
