The feature I like most is the bluetooth midi control like the have on their L-series recorders. I have the L-20R and absolutely LOVE the iPad control! It would be a great feature to have on a small recorder, especially for recording yourself.

I just bought the H6 last month when it was on sale, and I was worried that it might already be out of date, but with the look and size of the H8, I’m glad I got the H6.

My H6 is the all black model and one thing I like about it is that it doesn’t really stand out and look bad if it is in frame on a video. The H8 is a bit much.

Not that I wouldn’t like to have it and use it in certain situations....

The touch screen is a nice feature. I notice more and more of the tech items are using touch, and I even recently purchased a Snark Touch metronome that is super easy to operate due to the touch display.

I'm beginning to think that the "H" number relates to an ever-ascending degree of how hideous these recorders are. I realize all those mics, XLR connectors, buttons, knobs, and assorted goo-gaas have to go somewhere, but this thing is embarrassingly ugly IMHO.

Could they have made it look just a little less like a robot?

It does look like a little like an enemy character from one of the Transformers movies! ;-)

Wonder if there’s any assessment of the preamps already?

When Zoom went from the H4 to the H4N, the H5, and the H6, they mentioned an improvement in preamp quality as one of the main features.

As many of us have experienced, while the preamps on the recent models are better than they were on the original H4, they are still pretty noisy.

This is especially noticable if you are using a low gain mic like an SM7B or are shooting video and using a shotgun mic at any sort of distance for a wide shot.

The fact that there is no mention of preamp improvement in the H8 literature makes it seem pretty likely that the preamps are the same as the H4N/H5/H6.
