I have learned that if I want to use a "normal" 3-wire condenser with my Baggs MixPro, things get a bit more complicated. This kind of set up requires a buffer jack that Baggs hasn't made in years.

Judging from the install manual for the buffer jack, I'm thinking such a jack might not be too difficult to DIY. Anyone know how these jacks are wired.

Otherwise, I've concluded that I need to stick to a 2-conductor mic.
Most mics that people use in guitars are electrets, which can run on 2 wires, 9 volts bias power, not balanced phantom power. You would not use a typical XLR condener mic, unless you want to add an XLR second jack to your guitar. What mic are you talking about using? Everything I use is based on 2 wires, the hot wire goes to the ring of a TRS jack (which gets 9 volts from a preamp), and the ground goes to ground. You simply use a TRS cable to a preamp that supports the mic - like the MixPro

Funny enough, that's what Bruce Cockburn does. He has a Fishman Matrix wired to a standard strapjack and an Audio-Technica condensor wired to a XLR jack next to the strapjack of his acoustic. I believe I heard he even has a SM57 in his Dobro, along with a piezo.

That's one way to do it.

I love the combination of LB-6 and Lyric mic that came with my Godin Doyle Dykes signature Multiac.
