Yep, and it appears that most guys and gals known for being excellent acoustic guitarists play 000 or bigger. Not surprising, perhaps, since this covers most guitars. But I would be surprised if someone (including another player) would refer to my OM as “that small guitar.” It’s just a guitar. A 00 or smaller is a different story, more likely to be referred to as a “cool little guitar” or some such.

Jeff Tweedy comes to mind. He plays several 00 guitars, but switches it up with other body sizes, including a couple of jumbos.

In this thread I’m seeing singers with small (00 and under) guitars, but not really guitar players. Tommy Emmanuel is an exception perhaps, though I’m not sure about the size of his guitars (he’s 6’ 2”, so maybe they just look small.)

I like singers, but.

Oh and yeah, I don’t personally think of 000 or OM as “small.” YMMV.

Well, accompanying yourself or others on a guitar is a particular kind of guitar playing that requires a different skill set than solo players. It does not make them less of a player. A few fine players do both equally well, like Nina Gerber. To infer that a player and musician like Janis Ian isn't a "real" guitar player because they don't play like Tommy Emmanuel does a huge injustice to many fine musicians and guitarists. It's fine if it isn't your thing, but no need to diminish who they are as players and musicians.

Sorry if there was some misunderstanding, but I would never "diminish" the greatness of any accompanying guitarist, would never disrespect that very necessary and beautiful job of playing, and its possible styles. Nope. In fact, Paul McCartney is one of my favorite acoustic guitar players, top level, bar none. "Mother Nature's Son" is a beautiful way of playing, and I adore it.

I could go on and on about all the accompanying guitarists I love. But back to the OP, which is an ancient post, and perhaps he or she isn't around to define terms like "small" guitar, or specify what he or she was tryna get at with "famous guitarist."

I suggest 00 or smaller as I mentioned above, and also suggest that "famous guitarist" would mean something like, "famous for playing guitar", the kind of player that often ends up on "great player" lists.

What matters to me is the essence of the OP, and you may define that in any way you wish.
