my first real build
This is guitar number two but really my first real build..it is east indian rose wood with a western red cedar top..
I like laminated x brace for a number of reasons and I guess that comes from my construction experience. I like solid kerf because I believe in a solid rim to the drum with strings.. |

What two woods did you use for the X brace, and the solid linings, any trouble bending them? Nice looking guitar.

Hey Ian, Congrats on the build! What made you choose a laminated X brace?

The two woods for x brace is sitka spruce and black walnut. Using ply beams in construction gives a stonger beam and in buildings a smaller ply beam can be used instead of a big solid wood one. I think it takes the guess work away from the strength of a solid piece of wood. See so many tops on guitars pushed down.
Solid kerf is black walnut and altho it takes time to bend it ...adds a bit of weight I guess but not too concerned with a few grams... looks better to me also A video of Don Ross playing it at a small show in Elmira ontario. Don played a couple of tunes on each builders guitar which was a thrill for this part time maker.. http:// https://www.youtube.com/watc...e_gdata_player Last edited by Ian John; 08-04-2013 at 08:39 PM. |

Cool headstock. Makes me think of the Union Jack for some reason.

Very nice looking and I like the idea of the f hole for the sound port.
Any sound clips? |
