Compression Pedal For Acoustic
I'm sure this question has been asked but my phone won't allow me to search here.
What compression recommendations do you have for acoustics? |

I purchased a used LR Baggs Session DI and it seems to work very well. Lots of compliments with my Eastman I play with and I am a pretty aggressive strummer. Really smooth's out my overall tone.

Tried them all, landed on a Cali 76. Superb. I play nylon only and it naturally returns the sound of the guitar with a smoothen peak when I go from fingerpicking to a more flamenco percussive strumming.

I've been having a good experience lately with an MXR M76 Studio Compressor/M87 Bass Compressor (exact same pedal with different names aimed at different markets). I chose it because it had the controls you usually find on studio units and plug-ins, and I wanted to be able to control the compression to my own taste and needs. Nice little pedal.

I suspected the Cali 76 could work well on acoustic instruments! Glad to get at least one affirmation. Thanks!

I love compressors and the Cali is great for getting that Stephen Stills squashed sound that I like sometimes. For a more gentle "always on" type of compression I use one by a pedal company called Pettyjohn, it's even more expensive than the Cali though and hard to find except by direct order: https://pettyjohnelectronics.com/shop/crush/ Be forewarned that neither of these comps take batteries and the manufacturers recommend an 18v power supply (not included) for best performance. May I also add that every effect you add to an acoustic is better to be high quality or better not have it at all. But, I found this rule particularly important with compressors..

Couldn't agree more, a low quality compressor can quickly steal tone and add noise. Also beware of compression on multi-effect units as it frequently is digital. Digital is for reverb and delay, not compression!

Big box Cali76 is great for acoustic instruments. Pristine audio quality.

Wish I had picked up one with Lundahls while they were still in production. They're going for a fortune used, especially the ones with boost and blend.
