Default Some good how to play videos

Came across Steve Stine browsing around youtube. I thought the concepts in this video were well laid out:

These types of videos abound these days, but are hit or miss, mostly miss, and you can waste a lot of time searching for the kind of information that can equip you with meaningful knowledge. I think that for many players, particularly those who are just starting to sniff past the beginner stage, this one is a definite "hit", and well worth watching!

I think so too Andre. That is why posted the thread. Ideas were laid out in a way you can remember and in a way you can apply on the fly.

It's great to have so many resources. I use YouTube a lot for variety in approaching styles and tunes. For jazz guitar it is hard to beat Tim Lerch.

But back in the day all we had was LP's, 45's and 78's. Later on we could record live stuff on a Walkman. WOW!!!

I suppose this is why I always advise listening and an aural approach before and in addition to visual aids. It's difficult to try to learn two things at once: the music and the instrument to reroduce it.

If you learn the music first (listen, LISTEN, Listen) you'll have a huge head start in playing. As I've said before, "If it ain't coming out your ears it ain't gonna come out of your hands".

Good luck, have fun.

I have always advised that people develop a good ear. Learning at least some tunes just by listening is part of that. That is what I always did back in the 1960's (mostly from records have tunes such as Classical Gas, etc.). If any thing, the info in video should help one apply what they are hearing (or make up their own material) more quickly and efficiently.

Marty Swartz of guitarjamz.com is my current favorite. He teaches as if you were in a classroom, often pausing to allow you to play the riff he has just demonstrated. He takes it slow and repeats. For rhythm players he takes the time to show the chords and how to finger them and almost more important he shows the strum pattern at learning speed and performance level. If want to learn Long Train Running or The Thrill Is Gone, he'll show you how to play it.

If your goal is simplicity, and being able to play the most songs with the fewest amount of chords, this is a great free resource:

http://simplifiedguitar.com/

For more complicated stuff, I think guitarlessons.com is very well done.

Bob Weir of The Grateful Dead said the secrete to his success was his ability to play any chord in any key.

Rich Severson of 99 cent guitar lessons is a big proponent of learning licks and songs in different keys.

He believes that right after you learn a lick or song, learn it in another key and it will make it stick in your brain.
