Tim wisely decided that this guitar would sound best with a bridge, and that the bridge would work best in one exact, carefully planned position.
He's found that it pays to pause for a moment before installing the bridge and bridge plate to make sure they will not disturb any of the good notes that he had so painstakingly placed in there earlier. |

I had wanted a rather clean fretboard, yet with something that instantly identified this as being my guitar, even from afar. But what? I struggled with this, and others who have offered to help me did as well. In fact, this was the most difficult aspect of the decision making process.
Eventually, I opted for a single, complimentary cotton bole, somewhat reminiscent of the inlay on my 1995 Cotten Special Taylor 612c, the guitar that I jokingly refer to as my "own" signature model. (Neither Taylor Guitars nor Cotten Music Center in Nashville, for whom about 60 of them were built, had ever heard of me at the time, nor I them. Still, it's my one claim to fame and I like it.) Here, Tim is applying the chosen design onto the fretboard of the AGF Award guitar. |

And the major pieces have come together, and now I see a guitar. (Sorry these pictures are somewhat out of the actual building sequence.)

I'm astonished that I was unaware of the Outstanding Volunteer Service Award, Cotten's being the recipient, the collection of funds for an award guitar, the discussion on which guitar to order and the choosing of a McKight guitar until now.
Congratulations, Cotten! You very much deserve the award. |

Once again, Cotton, I have enjoyed catching up on this build thread to see how your guitar is doing. Wow! What a special guitar this is turning into! I wish I could be at Healdsburg to see you receive this guitar. What a moment that will be!

I like what a well designed sound port does for what the player hears from his/her guitar. I like it even more when the port is attractively done.
