This Is An Early Takamine
Before Takamine began to export guitars world-wide under their own name they produced guitars under the name 'Wayne' for the Wayne Music Company here in Australia.
Late 1960's to early 1970's. Most were nylon string classical guitars. The mountain featured on the label represents Mt. Takamine in Japan (not Fuji!) The original factory was situated at the foothills of this mountain and they took their name from the English spelling - Takamine. Here is a much rarer steel string. Not collectable here ... this one is on ebay here , starting bid around US$40.00

My nylon string Takamine I bought in 1972 is the first with a 'Takamine' headstock and last of the guitars with a 'Made for Wayne' label.
Interesting to note the word conscience is misspelt on all the Australian labels - missing the letter 's'. The early guitars into the USA featured a very similar label with similar wording - but spelling corrected!

Love your Takamine classical Bruce. Takamine made some lovely guitars in the past, I actually had one myself many years ago.
Speaking of classical, I actually found a cheap Spanish made classical at the Sunday markets few years back that needs the bridge glued back properly. Lovely guitar for 20 bucks. |

Careful, Gibson may get their drawers in a bunch over that pick gaurd.:
I have always leaned to the less popular things. Cars, motorcycles, instruments. All because I don't normally want what everyone else has. I wouldn't mind that Wayne in my collection.

Always something new to learn here. Explains the label in the above link that otherwise does not associate Wayne with Takamine. |

The Wayne Company was actually founded by Harry West and his son Sid.
Harry sang and performed in a band under the name of 'Rudy Wayne and the Honolulu Boys'. I'm pretty sure that's where the name 'Wayne' comes from.
