Default 1937 Martin 000-18 $OLD

This is the best Martin I've ever played, and I would be happy indefinitely with its fantastic tone and condition, but I have my eyes set on a 1931 OM-18 and I need to test the waters on who may be interested in my guitar, because I cannot afford two pricier vintage Martins at the same time.

I purchased this guitar from Larry Wexer approximately four years ago, and It is probably my favorite guitar. When I bought it from Larry, the highlights were:

1) Original finish, in good to very good condition
2) original Grover oval knob tuners, G string tuner is finicky.
3) original bridge and plate (pix included)
4) Frets 7-9, action adjustment and pickguard crack stabilized by Strunk et at approx 2 years ago.
5) Crack on soundboard on lower bout between bridge and bottom of guitar, too far to the right to be a center seam separation, but professionally repaired years ago and stable.

No neck cracks, no other repairs as far as I know, just about as clean a 37 000-18 gets these days. I have had Larry re-appraise it, and his educated opinion is $14,000.00 He has provided me with a paper copy of this should you wish to see it. I will abide by Larry's appraisal and start with an asking price of 14k.

To be perfectly clear, if the OM I'm looking at gets sold then I'm immediately pulling this guitar off the market. I have literally nothing bad to say about this guitar and would be content to enjoy it until they put me in a pine box, but I am chasing the grail so there you have it. Pictures for your perusal:

Please contact me with questions, comments, or concerns. All AGF buy and sell rules apply. As stated above, i reserve the right to pull this listing at any time if the OM thing falls through.

Thanks for looking,
Matthew

Wow Mathew, I’ve sold many a stupidly good guitar and many incredible vintage guitars too, including a special 35 Gibson to Creekside. I believe Tim played my 33 OM-18 and my 37 000-18. He favored the former, but I just can’t imagine selling my 37. That’s my favorite, and your’s is nicer. It’s sad we can’t keep them all, but then no one else would get to play them either. Best of luck on the buy and the sell, and boy, someone will get one small guitar holy grail and someone will get the other. Cheers.

If the OM comes to fruition, I will have climbed the mountain and communed with the oracle. So, some blood sacrifice is necessary.

To the top. Sometimes a little madness is required when seeking white whales.

A friend just put his 37 OOO-28 on Reverb. For $35,000. This looks like a bargain!

I just had to bump this cuz I cracked up reading this ...I have a 000-18 Retro I love, so I can only imagine how your '37 sounds!
Best wishes in both the sale and the climb to Mt OM-lympus!

Some serious inquiries, but nothing solid. To the top.
