STUNNED.
Got an ad from GC for a Fender Bullet Telecaster for $179. Always wanted one so I bit on it and the order came 4 days later in a box {No Case} all wrapped up in sheet foam. Took it out, looked great, tuned it up and jammed some tunes. The action was a bit high and the low E sounded louder than the rest so I took it to see my friends at The Guitar Factory here in Orlando. Doug Montgomery stripped off the strings, recut the nut, adjusted the truss rod then strung it up with D`Addario Chromes then reset the intonation. Bill Fells redid the pickups so they are all in line with each other then he plugged it in and gave it a whirl..Sounded so much better!. For this kind on money they said this was a Deal,$ 40 bucks for an hour and a half of Luthier work was well worth it as it plays like butter now. Check these axes out from GC!. I got Lucky!!.

The squire telecasters are tremendous bang for buck, IMO.

Living in the sphere of NYC, $40 for an hour and a half of luthier time is REALLY bang for the buck.

Better call Doug at Guitar Factory and let him know his business is about to be increased. Love it when a guitar tech charges affordable prices.

Recutting a nut is unusual, but the basic setup of an electric guitar is something every player who plays electric should learn.

My guess is that he means the nut was tuned up. That's actually quite a common thing on even more expensive factory guitars. BUt yeah in general a good set up goes a long way to making those cheap guitars nice.
