Woot!!! NMD (New Mandolin Day)...
Ordered this Breedlove KO VTG mandolin from my Breedlove dealer a few months ago (after already having bought four Breedlove acoustic guitars and a Breedlove acoustic bass over the past year).
My buddy at the shop texted me a pic of it this morning and said it'd arrived. I'm stuck at work all day today, but I work with my wife and she was going home to do dog duty, so I had her stop by and pick it up on her way back to work. I was able to play a few chords on it, and my favorite little mando "ditty" that happens to be the first thing I ever learned on the mando (mando break on "Stonehenge" from the movie Spinal Tap). She looks flawless, plays perfectly, and projects a powerful voice. Looking forward to breaking her in over the next few months and hopefully she opens/loosened-up even more. A true quality piece from what I can tell, and certainly better than the cheap A-style and Alvarez A800 F-style that I've been noodling around on for years. Can't wait until I get home from work and can spend the evening with this thing! Please excuse the crappy cell phone pics. I plan to get some good pics of the entire Breedlove family with my Canon camera at some point... |

Wow!
Breedlove makes some nice mandolins. I get to use one to teach at my local GC.

Oval holes DO rule.
Though there are about a zillion that may disagree..... |

I too prefer oval holes. I've got a nice little F-style Alvarez A800 that's been the mando that I've been noodling on for the past 10 years or so. And it's a great little mando. But it doesn't have near the punch, bass, or midrange that this Breedlove oval has. The Breedlove sounds so much woodier as well. And it's brand new. In fact, I think that after two days of playing her, she's already started to open-up a bit. She ought to be awesome when she's as old as the Alvarez (maybe 15 years old?). Here are a few pics (excuse the cell phone pics again)... one of both of my current mandos and then one of the Breelove CM steel string along-side it's "mini-me" KO mando... |

The minute I brought my first mando home (it was an A-style that I later gave to my dad) I knew that I HAD to learn Stonehenge. So I learned that by ear, and then for a while I just learned a bunch of Bach solo violin partitas that I have the sheet music for. Wish I still remembered them. Should relearn No. 3 as that's always been my favorite. |

I know... I'm already eye-balling an A-style! Ha ha. Talk about GAS. And what I'm really starting to want to add to the Breedlove collection is one of their Masterclass Koa ukeleles. I've been plucking around on my Lanakai tenor uke for several years now and I think it's time I upgraded. So I'd better start saving for one of those I guess... |

That's pretty neat!
Someday I may aspire to trying the mando, but for now I certainly have my hands full with guitars and the new guitalele.
