Default NGD - Summer outdoor gig beater

Posted last week about Thomann running monthly offers on different products for their 70th year anniversary.

They were running one on all walnut Big Baby Taylors which were effectively 65% of the cost of a new one in the UK.

Having previously owned a spruce topped one years back and gigged with it, I couldn’t resist and think it will be great for outdoor gigs over the summer with a spare Baggs M1 pickup I’ve got lying around.

It arrived and I was really suprised. The roasted maple neck feels great and the setup was perfect out the box. The walnut is a darker sound than the spruce version (from my memory of my old one) with more overtones also.

Very nice!! I gigged a Big Baby Taylor with a Baggs M1 for about a year when I started gigging again and it worked really great. I got a lot of compliments on my guitar tone.

Im thinking of picking one up for summer road trips and camping, but can’t decide on a baby Taylor, GS Mini, one of the Jr martins
, or just a dirt cheap parlor guitar.

Let us know how you like that mini as you play it more and more.

Walnut is beautiful! Congrats on the new guitar!

Has anyone bought from them? They have a sign that says VAT applies. VAT in Europe can be 20-25% depending on the country. Also what is their shipping like?

They have been great for me being in the UK. No additional fees on top of the price. Really good customer service and a lot of their gear is cheaper. If your in Europe I’d highly recommended them.

I’m not sure what their policies are on shipping to the US though sorry.

This post references the BIG Baby, which is a different animal than the Baby - whole 'nother level. I have a GS Mini for travel (love it) and a Big Baby. Both have K&K mini's installed, and sound great plugged in and acoustically.

My HPL 000 Martin is my bad weather beater for gigs. Works out great. Never goes out of tune and you can leave it anywhere without worrying. Not a stich of wood in that thing.

Yes this is the BBT. I’ve just swapped the micarta saddle for bone. It’s a positive change IMO. I know it works well for some guitars but not all!

Nice score! I think the Big Baby sounds much better than the Mini, and they are great for schlepping around, and kind of indestructible. A friend of mine has one that he is not kind to, and it takes the abuse, no problem.
