Default >>NGD: 2018 J-45 << Pics included!

Finally got me a J-45...again.

Had few J45’s in the past and I don’t know why I ever sold them...well I am hopeful this one will stick around. Perhaps just me but it seems burst has gotten better recently. Or maybe mine is just special

Also to note, 2018 case is now brown as shown in picture and case candy has changed. No more pack of strings but now they include a strap, pick holder, towel, and most important... TRUSSROD TOOL!!! In the past it was pain to find one local thin enough to fit. I’m glad it’s included now. Also I don’t recall from the other ones I have owned but the body binding on this one is but more yellow in person. Me like it!

Tone? Did I mention mine is special?!?!

Question: anyone know what the stock strings are? It’s no longer the Gibson master built 80/20 it seems to me. It’s darker color such as PB.

Cheers!

You helped with Sitka.
Just love the warmth and compression of Sitka when strummed.

Looks like a beauty. How is the neck profile, round thicker or more of a V shape? Did you get it locally or over the internet?

All recent “standard” are C profile to me. Gibson calls it “slim taper” and some dealer calls it “comfort contour” .
Some are thinner than others but we’re talking .010-.020” difference only. I typically prefer thicker neck and felt ones I owned in 2016 to be tad thinner than my liking. I was happy with neck on this particular one feeling tad thicker than what I remembered from others I have owned.

I mail ordered this one. Yes it was a gamble but it all worked out.

Congrats Skyhigh!!! Can't go wrong with a great J45.

Interesting point you made about the warmth of Sitka. I know the TV J45's feature Adirondack red spruce, but I too prefer the warmth of Sitka. I feel that the warmth helps to promote that great warm, "thump" that Gibsons are known for.

That sunburst looks GREAT!!!!

Love that relic look on J45 with its nitro finish. Hence thinking of using heavier pick and let it bask in my backyard when not playing.

I did play couple J45 Vintage with its tortified Adi top recently. Loved its thick neck and how light it was. Definitely made me want to have one for what it was. Having said, Stardard with Sitka top has bit more warmth to my ears as I stated already.

Call me crazy but the warmth really reminded me of chewing on a biscuit. The more I chew, the warmer it feels...sort of like more I strumm the more it compresses and gives me that warmth thump...I know it sounds odd but that’s the way it it feels/sounds to MY EARS.
