Default Taylor LKSM-6 - thoughts?

I am a big Leo Kottke fan but I am not able to learn 12 string at the moment, was considering trying to track down one of his 6 string signature models instead. Has anyone played one of these, what did you think? Are they worth the money people are charging for them (1500 - 2K) compared to other guitars in that price range?

I'm no Taylor expert. My understanding is these models have standard scale length yet they are intended for low tuning. I guess it's mostly in the bracing. My guess is you could tune to C# standard with good tone but I wouldn't expect it to do well in lower tunings. Sort of a quasi baritone. I guess the only way to find out is to find one and play it.

A Taylor signature model for under $2k sounds pretty reasonable to me.

Taylor says it was built for standard pitch...

The six string is meant to be tuned standard. The twelve string version is not.

....it’s been about 20 years since I owned one but I would not hesitate to buy one again if I was so inclined.....a terrific model that is easily worth the current pricing on the used market... I remember mine as a huge sounding dynamic guitar that’ was surprisingly versatile....with a great looking cutaway...

I have one now (2010 model). I think they are nice guitars. Typical easy to play Taylor, tone is nice. The one surprising thing on mine is that it is NOT this big booming Jumbo guitar. It is (obviously) a very good fingerstyle guitar and a good strummer, but if you are used to rosewood (and that "shimmer"), well, LKSM's aren't that.
I use mine on gigs as it's so easy to play (!), around the house, I tend to play other guitars....

I've played LKSM's in six and twelve strings on several occasions and they are quite nice. I ended up with somewhat fancier 615ce. Unfortunately I bought that one in 2014 not long before my right shoulder got hurt, and I don't play jumbos any more. As to the OP's question about price - in the $1500-$2000 range used seems right to me.

I don’t play 12 stringers myself, but I do have the 6 string version. I’m a huge fan of both the guitar model and it’s namesake.
Taylor did a great job with this one!

One of the few Taylor models I'd consider owning - they're really great!
