To me the most important thing about the guitar is comfort. If a dred is too big, remember it is also possible to get a guitar that is too small like maybe a parlor. I am comfortable with my dred but I find a parlor very difficult to hold comfortably in order to play with good technique. You need to decide by trying different sized guitars and see what fits the most comfortable for you. Then decide on brand, neck width, 12 or 14 fret, short or long scale according to what you personally are drawn to. Generally, OM and 000 sized guitars seem to be the most (on average) comfortable for most fingerstyle players.
