Here are a few photos of the guitar Michel Aboudib brought to the show:

The back and sides are Brazilian rosewood—the photos don’t capture the depth of the finish.

Beautiful Rosette and that Brazilian Rosewood looks sweet. Thanks for sharing

My Sumerian is a little rusty. I recognize “house/temple” but was there a translation for the cuneiform?

Wow, that’s impressive to recognize that! I caught the tail end of a conversation in which Michel was explaining its meaning so I missed most of it. I think it’s from a text describing the battle of two Sumerian gods (creation?), one of which either represented water or was the god of water. The gods (and the battle?) are depicted on the rosette. I’ll try to get the correct meaning later today.

On a separate note, the performances were sensational. Jordan Tice was very entertaining, and the Yamaha acoustic (made in California) that he played sounded phenomenal. Huge props to the sound crew at the Old Town School of Folk Music because the sound in the auditorium was outstanding, but Yamaha is going to sell a lot of those guitars. And then Julian Lage—what is there to say? As jasonv commented after the performance, it was like witnessing a UFO.

Anyone even remotely close to Chicago should try to see what they can of the summit.

Funny on the forum the rosette caught my eye for this thread and I'm thinking to myself hey that looks like Michel's work ...

Sure enough ...

Wow, Big Bill’s guitar! I’m still hoping to attend today, but my treatment side effects are pretty strong. I may be living vicariously through you guys. I was really looking forward to Molly tonight at 8pm.

These are dammonn guitars. The one on the right is a composite top with a honeycomb core

Hayes guitar.

And, yes, the floor is tilted. Must be a foundation problem.

I created a gallery of photos here:

Fretboard Summit 2022

The detail shots are of random things I found interesting. The photos are still uploading, so give it an hour or so (or click back later and you’ll see more photos). Unfortunately, when I upload the photos, they get slightly out of order—there are too many of them for me to organize them now.

The Summit was incredibly well run, and seeing the Milk Carton Kids and Molly Tuttle in such an intimate venue was a special treat. A huge thanks and hearty congratulations to jasonv—you put on a stellar show!

P.S. There was only one left-handed guitar at the show—the gorgeous OM made by Fred Tellier—it ended up coming home with me! Perhaps it was a good thing that there weren’t more or I would’ve been in trouble…
