Default Martin is officially making too many guitars...

How many sets of eyes missed this OM pickguard on a $4000 Dreadnought before it left the factory? I can’t help but think if they scaled back a little bit, quality would improve. I say that as someone who loves and owns nothing but Martin guitars...

That is hilarious! Maybe it'll be worth more because it's one of kind...

The picture on Sweetwater's website showing all four of the D-28s together reminds me of the child's game, "Which one doesn't belong?" Maybe they're not making too many guitars; they just need to hire more seven-year-olds to do quality control....

Maybe Sweetwater ordered it that way.

That's not an OM pick guard on a dreadnought.

That's the correct pick guard for the new Martin deep body, wide bout, Modern Deluxe Natural 14 fret OM.

Anything ordered off spec has to be labeled “custom” and cannot be advertised as a regular model, per Martin policy. This, very clearly, is one of four available on the site.

And when I let sweetwater know, they sent me a “thanks, you’re right!” message.

Though I admit it looks unaccustomed and odd, I actually prefer that pickguard shape to the usual. In my perfect world, no pickguard is ideal.

Did you see the alignment of push-fit tuner bushings?
Shambolic!

I agree the OM guard does look nice (on an OM).

Here’s what a typical Martin D28 is wearing...

You don't happen to consult for Breedlove by chance?
