Your favorite original song you've recorded
Hey guys, I know that people occasionally put up new material here, but what is your favorite of your own recordings? Though all should be appreciated, the best ones definitely spark the interest! I'd like to hear them.

My favorite original is a song called "On my Side". You can find it on my myspace page in the link in my signature. I'll forwarn you; it's Contemporary Christian, so if you are offended or have objections to that, don't go there.

It's a little like asking which of your children is your favorite...they are mine, so choosing one over the other is difficult. However, if I had to choose just one, it would be "Here We Are." It's an old recording with several mistakes, but I just like it for some reason!
BTW - I am continually impressed by the talent in this forum! Danno, what a great song and tribute to those friends who have passed before you! I have to admit, it brought a tear to my eyes because it made me think of some buddies of mine that are gone. Rafe/Jess; "Better Off" is A Very professional sounding track! You both have beautiful voices that work very well together! Barry, I don't play fingerstyle, but I love listening to it. "Orkney Blues" is a very nice piece. I like that it doesn't sound complicated and that it is a smooth, well-played movement! Mike; "On My Side" was a pleasure to hear! I enjoyed both the lyrics and your performance! The recording had just enough air to give the song a prayer-like feel! Well done!

I like a lot of them, actually, or I wouldn't have recorded them. Currently, my favorite is one because I so much enjoyed the musicians, called Fallen.

My favorite that I've recorded (because it was one of my best and most complete performances--I did the lead vocal and every instrument but hand drum) is "My Dad's Harmonica," available on my Myspace page (and the sassandthesasstrio Myspace as well.
Lyrics: My Dad's harmonica Sits in the cabinet. I haven't touched it since the day it came. Since I was three years old I'd always wanted it But now it's here, and simply not the same. He would blow in & out & in & out, his thumb would work the slide Those sharps & flats I never learned to play. In & out & in & out, it sang, it laughed, it cried But only Dad could make it sound that way And every single day felt just like Hanukkah Whenever Dad would play His old harmonica The only instrument In our apartment since I got my first guitar There was a rumor that He'd once played violin, But when asked him, I never got too far, He'd shake his head instead and pick it up And coax another tune From wood & reed & steel & polished chrome. A cowboy song, a lullaby or even "Clair de Lune" Would ornament the air throughout our home And even in July, it felt like Hanukkah When all those melodieds would fly From Dad's harmonica (instr). But when I moved away He never played again. No children left for him to entertain. He still had all his music Left inside him on the day We laid him to rest in that cold Long Island rain. I have a briefcase full Of blues harmonicas A different one for every single key So very different now, From Dad's Chromonica Maybe not better, but suited more to me Still, I blow in & out and in out, more simply than my dad No trace of eleganc o subtlety The notes come out but dance wihout the magic that they had Whenever Daddy's playing set them free But when I tap my memory Each day is Hanukkah Because my dad still plays for me His old harmonica, big old harmonica That sweet harmonica.

Sandy that's a great lyric! How've you been?
My favorite is Campfire. I don't know if it's my best song, but it is a love song for my wife: There's a free mp3 download on my blog... and you can also see a video of a more recent tune: http://midwesternsongs.blogspot.com/...reg-hales.html |

Wow, great tunes everyone. Espeically like Danno's and Chicago Sandy's. Good stuff.
Here's my contribution. Things I've Seen: http://davidberchtold.com/db3/00256/...Seen128bit.mp3 Recorded live at our local farmers market. This was only the second time Brian ( on harmonica) and had played together. During the first break you can hear my guitar fade away. I was listening to Brian harmonica melody and forgot to play! It's kind funny. I'm pretty much exclusively a finger picker now. This is about the only song I still use a flatpick on, but it's one of my favorites. I've seen bad things and I've seen good I've seen people do what they should I've seen smiles and I've seen frowns I've seen the anger comin' down I can't tell you what it means I can only say - what I've seen These hands have played some rock and roll These hands have held a new-born soul These hands have caused their share of pain These hands have felt the gentle rain I can't tell you what it means I can only say - what I've seen These ears have heard small children swear These hands have stroked a loved one's hair These feet have run the bitter mile These eyes have seen your sweet sweet smile I can't tell you what it means I can only say - what I've seen Repeat 1st verse

Red John, I suppose, because it's still fun to play.

Usually whatever I did last is my "favorite" for a while. I guess I would have a tossup between "Caroline" and "Face Down", on the website.
