There is an aging, gassing, and smell joke in there. I have never sniffed the soundhole of any of my guitars; I usually just play 'em. Apparently, I am a party of one on this.

I'm good with the company, John. I look forward to the day when all the little children of the world can hold hands and sing together in harmony... sniffers and non-sniffers. No inference meant that guitar-sniffers should be ostracized in any way. What people do in the privacy of their own home is their business and between themselves and a consenting guitar.

This is not to be taken that I am some kind of weird non-sniffer. I quite enjoy the smell of the nape of my wife's neck.

Some folks just don't know what they're missing.

More to the point. There has been considerable discussion as to whether CF instruments change over time (as do wooden guitars). It seems to me that a good gassing would have to change the character of the instrument. I suspect the change (as with the addition of veneers) would be subtle and might not be noticed even on a crowded elevator (or a crowded forum).

People notice, Evan. We're not talking about sniffin' guitars anymore, are we? Here - pull my finger. Does that change the sound of low E string?

Yeah, I know: back in my corner.

Well this guitar is certainly interesting and does look very weapon-like. But you would have to plug it in to hear anything.

Would that make it silent but deadly?

Looks like I'll have company while I'm standing in my corner.

I'm a sound hole sniffer - the Emerald seems to have an almost new car smell - which is kinda cool. The RainSong has a much stronger paint/glue scent.

The dreaded black assault guitar, certainly.
I bet it does make some sound even without plugging in.

So, dumb question -- what is the chemical in CF that is causing this?
Probably just the epoxy.

I notice no odors from my RainSong or my Emerald.

I hate opening up a guitar case and get blasted in the face by stale embedded cigarette smoke. Sorry for that visual.

That is interesting. I've never seen one before. Unplugged it would probably sound like an unplugged Yamaha steel string silent guitar. I did find a video of their Duo model with a pezeo and a humbucker.
