Default The boy and I trade vocals on the Isbell beauty Cover Me Up

My younger son has decided that Jason Isbell is about the best thing there ever was. I can’t really argue. I’ve probably taught both my boys plenty of bad habits. So many hours in so many days. But if they love music half as much as I do I’m smiling.

We did this one tonight before dinner.

I was hoping this would be the one you decided to do!

Great vocals, there is quite a range and it gets real high in the original key as you have done. The boy has a little grit in his voice, very nice, and he has the lick down, too.

My kids don't play, but they do take credit for turning me on to Jason Isbell

OK, is Songs that She Sang in the Shower up next?

I like it when you post stuff with your boys. Some of the best moments in my life as a dad have been sharing the gift of music with my kids. They grow fast, the blink of an eye, and then they are men. Appreciate every moment! The flip side is they will have these memories every day of their lives.

Great song. Your SonnyBoy is developing a killer voice.

Whoa.

I cover this song with my partner and we can only wish we could hit this level of awesome.

So…

1) Bills. I’m sorry. The Giants tanked too so I feel ya.

2) you’re a great dad and I’m psyched that he is so comfortable and natural with a camera on, with YOU.

3) excellent singing. Especially THE BOY. He has Jason nailed.

Hey what a great tune and what a great job guys ,, I love to see young folks get into acoustic

Couple questions
#1 So the capos are like making a drop D tuning ?
And what are the warbling background sounds at about 2:51 and 3:58 ? Kind of an interesting effect ..

Thanks Kev. There are electrics around but he is drawn to the acoustics.

Re capos. Yes 5 of 6 strings covered on the second fret with the low E open is a quick drop D. The E chord with all six strings strummed with the D shape sounds great.

Glad you got all the way to our subtle warbling effects. It’s an antique analog effect those of us born before 1980 know very very well.

Humm ? being born in 1950 and tongue firmly in cheek, I was wondering about the syncing of the timing

Man, that's great. You keep cranking out these talented kids - any more coming up behind this guy? I like Jason Isbell pretty much every time I hear him, but I have to confess to not knowing squat of his music. I might have to do something about that...

I have two daughters. One was actually a really good classically trained pianist until she gave it up not long after college when she realized she wasn't good enough to play the stuff she loved for a living and wasn't into playing weddings and in department stores and the like. The other tried to play guitar, but her hands are just amazingly tiny and she couldn't reach anything, so she bought a Uke and plays a little bit, but she never got all that into it. So I don't get to share making music with either of them, but my older one was really into cycling when I was so we did some cool cycling tours together when she was a teen. Any activity you have in common with your kids is pretty wonderful...

Thanks for posting this,

-Ray
