Default soundhole pickup for SC13E

I bought this guitar ;hearing all the bad reviews about the pickup.I still haven't plugged it in yet but if I don't like it ;is there a simple soundhole pup I can just "stick in there " when I play out. I don't want to install one . I've never anything like this so I am curious. Thanks .

The Mojotone soundhole pickups are very good. Might be more than you are looking to spend right now.

What's your budget?

What kind of amplification are you using?

I like the K&K Double Helix sound hole mag a lot.

I was very happy with the plugged in sound of the SC13E when I have heard people playing them at music shops.
I have not played one myself though.
I thought that the guitar was built around it's plugged in sound.

Hopwe you wind up happy with the stock pickup and don't have to add more money to replace it.

You've at least got to give it a try before you put another PU into it. There are plenty of people, all over this country, using that PU and they are happy with the results

Take the guitar back to the store and try it with an amp at the store. If you don't like it with an acoustic amp, try an electric amp. Then ask if you can try one or two guitars with better PU's. See what you think.

You're not going to get any better quality sound from a cheap sound hole pickup. Give what you have a try.

And remember, a lot of the posters in this sub-forum are are the top of the food-chain of acoustic plugged in tone. They're spending hundreds on they PU, more hundreds on the pre-amp, and more hundreds on their amp. And a lot of them are still not satisfied with their tone.

Give what you a try. You might be surprised.

Yes you can get a pretty good soundhole pickup for around $200...
Fishman Rare Earth
Dimarzio Black Angel
LR Baggs M1

Any one on those will sound MUCH better than that god awful Sonicore pickup Martin through in there. Yes! Do it.

I have a D-10e with the MX-T that I occasionally use. Running thru a
Red-Eye Twin helps smooth out the sound a lot. I most always need a
boost switch for solos; so it kills 2 birds with 1 stone. Surely other
preamps would work also....I have always wondered out the old Aura preamp.

I have also used an Angel pu in the Sound hole with good results, but a little
more hassle.....and needs a preamp too.

A less expensive pedal, like a Zoom A1 Four, might have just enough generic IR based de-quacking to take the rough edges off the Fishman Coax UST.

That particular pickup has got to have been, due to its ubiquitous usage and the similar Baggs Element, the target Zoom hoped to enhance.

I could make you a custom IR and a cheap electric guitar cabinet IR loader pedal would also do the job. The YouTube link below is intended to demo that exact problem: bottom of the line Fishman Coax UST into a short 1024 long cheap IR pedal.

I bought a Fishman Rare Earth soundhole pickup years ago - the single coil version. It STILL sounds really good when I use with my guitars that don’t have pickups installed. https://www.fishman.com/portfolio/ra...ndhole-pickup/

Rather than changing the MX-T, which is essentially a basic but perfectly serviceable coaxial UST, I’d suggest adding a pedal such as a Boss AD-2, AD-10 or Tonedexter, all of which are specifically intended to enhance and improve the acoustic quality of pickups such as these. You can get some really useful and enjoyable tone with the help of such units. I use an AD-10 and it improves everything…the AD-2 is just a smaller and less expensive unit with the bare bones essentials from the AD-10 to get a strong end result quickly and easily.
