New original: Did You (first work tape)
This is a poem that my wife wrote after a friend of mine, Kylie Rae Harris, passed away in September of 2019. She wrote this just a few weeks after I'd written my very first song, also one to Kylie after her tragic death.
Today, she asked me if I'd put this to music. I had to change up the lyrics a bit to get it to sing better, but the words are mostly hers. It took multiple attempts to sing this without choking up from the memories it brought back. Did You (words: Sara Pennybaker; lyrics: David Pennybaker) Did you pick a sunflower on your drive that day? Lyin’ on the dash like a golden ray? Did you roll down the window, feel the warm breeze? Look at the flowers, gaze at the trees? Did you turn up the radio, hear the sweet sound? Listen to nature, its melodies all around? Did you think of old loves, you’d had in the past? Imagine a new love, one that would last? Did you think of your family, those who’d gone on before? Picture ’em waitin’, holdin’ the door? Did you think of your daughter, blonde hair and blue eyes? Though unexpected, the sweetest surprise Did you think of the past, mistakes you had made? Had you decided there was nothin’ you’d trade? Did you think of your future, songs yet to come? Thirty years lived, much more to be done Did you watch the sunset, the sky all aglow? See the stars twinkle, the moon hanging low? Did you think of your life on that fateful day? Grateful for everything, come what may? |

Your singing is soooo nice, and very emotional. I can feel the vibe in your voice!!! Simply beautiful. Warm regards, Rene |
